Child Fatality and Ongoing Violations
The six-year-old Palestinian girl Shahd Abd al-Razzaq Al-Najjar was killed on Saturday morning after being shot by Israeli occupation forces inside her tent located west of the city of Gaza. Her death occurred amidst a series of new breaches of the ceasefire agreement that have continued to plague the Gaza Strip. In addition to the fatality, several other Palestinians were injured during the day due to these renewed hostilities.
Details of the Breaches
The Israeli military escalated its attacks across various sectors of the strip starting from the early hours of Saturday. The violations included intense shelling from artillery, fire from armored vehicles, drone strikes, and helicopter gunships. Specific incidents involved heavy firing from “Quadcopter” drones directed at civilians in the Gaza Square area in the east of the city. Helicopter gunships also opened fire east of Jabalia Camp and east of Khan Younis, while armored units targeted eastern areas of Gaza City.
Further aggression was reported north-east of Khan Younis, where intense fire was exchanged, and coastal areas west of Gaza City were targeted by naval vessels. The medical community faced direct threats when Israeli forces fired directly at an ambulance attempting to evacuate an injured person from the Mawasi area in Rafah, south of the strip. This incident highlights the ongoing dangers faced by medical teams performing their humanitarian duties.
Context of Continued Hostilities
These events mark the 366th consecutive day of ceasefire violations since the agreement entered into force on October 10, 2025, following mediation efforts in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The pattern of aggression persisted from the previous day, Friday, which saw nineteen separate violations resulting in Palestinian casualties and property destruction through house demolitions. The continuous breaches exacerbate the humanitarian and security crisis in Gaza, particularly endangering displaced families living in tents and children, amid calls for guaranteed protection of civilians and medical personnel.
