The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has issued a stark warning regarding the intensifying campaign of home demolitions carried out by Israeli authorities in the Masfer Yatta region, located in the southern part of the occupied West Bank. According to recent reports, these actions have resulted in the displacement of numerous Palestinian families and the destruction of critical infrastructure over the past few days.
Specific Incidents and Casualties
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, addressed these developments during a daily press briefing held last night. He detailed that on Tuesday, Israeli forces demolished twenty residential homes alongside other structures within two pastoral communities in the area. The destruction extended beyond housing to include essential utilities, specifically a water tank and solar panels, which are vital for the community’s survival in this remote location.
Haq further noted that a third community was targeted on Wednesday. These coordinated attacks have forced nearly sixty individuals to flee their homes, with children constituting half of those displaced. Additionally, thirty other residents remain in the area but face precarious conditions for the remainder of the season.
