The vessel is embarking on an extended deployment to the Middle East expected to last more than seven months. The carrier sailed across the Pacific Ocean accompanied by Carrier Air Wing Eleven. A defense official confirmed to the outlet that the ship has already commenced its planned operational duties.
According to reports, the Theodore Roosevelt is scheduled to enter the area of responsibility for US Central Command (CENTCOM). This movement marks a direct replacement for the USS George Washington, which typically maintains a permanent presence in Japan. The George Washington entered the operational scope of the US Fifth Fleet in mid-August. The transition signifies a strategic shift in naval asset allocation within the region.

This deployment occurs against a backdrop of increasing geopolitical friction involving Iran and the Houthi movement in Yemen. In recent years, the US military has increasingly redirected strike groups based on the West Coast from their traditional operational zones in the Indian and Pacific Oceans toward the Middle East. On Tuesday, a missile attack attributed to Houthi forces targeted a military site belonging to the Home Protection Forces, a government-aligned militia. The strike occurred in the Qaw’a area, located between the governorates of Aden and Lahj.
Local media reports indicate that the attack resulted in the deaths of four soldiers and injuries to nine others.
