Four individuals lost their lives following a missile attack on the Maashiq Presidential Palace in Aden, Yemen’s interim capital. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthi movement of firing ballistic missiles at the complex. According to the Yemeni Ministry of Information, two of the deceased were bodyguards assigned to protect senior officials within the palace.
Government sources confirmed that multiple ballistic missiles were directed toward the presidential compound in Aden. Large explosions were heard in the vicinity of the palace, with additional blasts reported in the nearby Al Burayqah district, close to the coalition headquarters. Social media users in Yemen shared footage showing thick columns of smoke rising from the Maashiq Palace, although the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Al Zoubaidi stated that the President and members of the government escaped the attack unharmed. The ministry emphasized that the Prime Minister and other cabinet members are safe despite the proximity of the strikes to their location.
The incident marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict between the Houthi rebels and the internationally recognized Yemeni government backed by a Saudi-led coalition. The targeting of the presidential palace in Aden underscores the persistent security challenges facing the interim administration as it attempts to maintain control over southern Yemen.
