Egypt has reiterated the urgent necessity for the complete withdrawal of the Israeli military from the Gaza Strip and the full implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, that these steps are essential to stabilize the truce and ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid into the territory.
Support for the US Peace Plan
The statement was released on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Sharm El-Sheikh summit. Cairo expressed its full backing for the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump regarding Gaza. Egypt confirmed it is maintaining coordination with the United States as well as regional and international partners to guarantee the execution of all obligations outlined in the framework.
Cairo emphasized the importance of building upon the achievements of the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, describing it as a critical milestone in international efforts to end the war on Gaza. The goal is to consolidate security and stability while creating conditions for early recovery and reconstruction of the sector. Egypt urged stakeholders to seize the opportunity provided by the American plan to launch a serious and credible political process. This process must address the root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to prevent cycles of violence and escalation, ultimately aiming for a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region.
Call for Palestinian Statehood
Egypt renewed its longstanding position calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This stance aims to secure the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and contribute to the security and stability of the region’s populations.
The Egyptian position comes amidst ongoing challenges in implementing the ceasefire agreement’s provisions. Key obstacles include completing the Israeli withdrawal, ensuring sustainable entry of humanitarian assistance, and advancing arrangements for the second phase. Although the ceasefire entered into force in October 2025, the execution of remaining clauses continues to face hurdles. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza persists, highlighting the need for guarantees to prevent the resumption of hostilities and facilitate reconstruction efforts.
