Settlers Desecrate Bab al-Rahma Cemetery Adjacent to Al-Aqsa

2 October، 2026

Incident Details and Rituals

On Friday morning, settlers invaded the Bab al-Rahma Cemetery, which is located adjacent to the Eastern Wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Municipality confirmed that early in the day, settlers performed Talmudic rituals to mark what they refer to as the seventh and final day of the Jewish Sukkot festival. Participants carried with them plants known as “the Four Species” while conducting these ceremonies outside the Eastern Wall, directly opposite Bab al-Rahma and alongside Muslim graves.

Municipal Warning and Strategic Intent

The municipality stated that these actions are part of a recurring pattern observed in the area recently. This behavior is driven by Jewish groups seeking to solidify the zone next to Bab al-Rahma as a designated point for Jewish prayer and religious rites. They achieve this through organizing frequent gatherings and prayers at the site, while simultaneously promoting religious and historical narratives that claim significant importance for the location among Jews. Some of these promoted narratives even assert that the site holds greater significance than the Western Wall (Al-Buraq Wall).

Jerusalem Municipality warned that the escalating and regular repetition of these rituals is not an isolated phenomenon but is linked to broader attempts to impose a new reality around the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The goal appears to be transforming the area bordering Bab al-Rahma into a permanent venue for Jewish rituals, which constitutes an infringement on the Islamic identity of the place and targets the historical and legal status quo of Al-Aqsa and its surroundings.

Recent Escalation

The last few weeks have witnessed intense desecration of the Bab al-Rahma Cemetery by settlers. These acts are part of an effort to gain control over the site and expand the space available for performing their Talmudic rituals within Islamic holy areas.
