1,300 Settlers Invade Al-Aqsa on 5th Day of Jewish Holiday

30 September، 2026

On Wednesday morning, approximately 1,317 settlers entered the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem. The incursions took place on the fifth day of what is referred to as the Jewish “Sukkot” or Feast of Tabernacles. The entry was conducted under heavy protection from Israeli police forces, who simultaneously imposed stringent restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshippers into the site.

Rituals and Specific Incursions

The Islamic Waqf Department in Jerusalem reported that around 700 settlers had already entered the mosque since early morning hours. This group was led by former Knesset member Moshe Feiglin, who performed Talmudic rituals within the compound’s precincts while carrying what are described as “vegetative offerings.” According to local sources, the invasions were marked by various Talmudic ceremonies, including practices known as the “Four Species” and the “Priestly Blessing.” Significant gatherings for prayers and collective rituals were observed in the eastern area of the mosque.

Escalation During the Holiday Period

These actions occur amidst a broader escalation in settler activities during the Sukkot festival, which began on September 26 and is scheduled to continue until October 2. The holiday follows the Hebrew New Year, observed on September 12 and 13, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, held on September 21 and 22. Data indicates a rising trend in such incursions; on Tuesday, the fourth day of the holiday, 1,462 settlers had previously entered the compound. Previous days of the festival also saw similar performances of prayers and rituals inside Al-Aqsa, coinciding with tightened Israeli control over Palestinian movement in the Old City and its surroundings.

Annual Statistics and Administrative Measures

According to data from the Jerusalem Governorate, more than 40,661 settlers have invaded the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound from the beginning of the year through the end of August 2026. In parallel with these physical incursions, administrative pressures have increased. Approximately 800 orders expelling Jerusalemites from the mosque area have been issued between the start of the year and early September. These figures highlight the intensifying friction between the religious activities of the settlers and the access rights of Palestinian Muslims to the holy site.
