UK Jewish Leader Condemns Settler Violence, Cites Gov Inaction

26 October، 2026

Condemnation of Settler Attacks

Phil Rosenberg, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, has strongly criticized the actions of settlers in the West Bank, highlighting that their violence has extended to British Jews who attempted to peacefully support the Palestinian olive harvest season. Speaking at the board’s general meeting last Sunday, Rosenberg acknowledged that the violence committed by extremist settlers is causing significant damage to Israel’s global image.

Government Failure and National Security Threat

Rosenberg stated that many people have expressed disgust over recent months, particularly regarding attacks on individuals, including British Jews, who sought to assist with the olive picking. He emphasized that the continuation of these assaults for several months, coupled with the Israeli army’s occasional role as a bystander or supporter, reveals a government that is either incapacitated or unwilling to take necessary measures to halt the violence. He warned the Israeli government to recognize that its declining reputation, weakened propaganda efforts, and attempts to market policies that are difficult to justify pose a threat to its national security.

Diplomatic Efforts and Election Context

The remarks came weeks after board members were informed that Rosenberg had lodged strong protests with the British government regarding anticipated sanctions against Tel Aviv related to trade with West Bank settlements. The board failed to persuade the British government to delay these sanctions until after the Israeli elections. Despite this, Rosenberg affirmed that the board would strengthen its commitment to Zionist values for British Jews, regardless of the election outcomes.
