Findings on the West Bank
A United Nations international commission of inquiry issued a damning report on Monday, formally accusing Israeli authorities and military forces of perpetrating crimes against humanity against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The panel’s findings explicitly categorize these acts as genocide, alongside systematic torture, rape, and other forms of sexual violence. The commission determined that these atrocities are underpinned by intersecting discriminatory motives centered on nationality, ethnicity, and racial identity.
The report details that the Israeli occupation authorities have engaged in persecution targeting specific demographic groups within the Palestinian population. These actions are described not as isolated incidents but as part of a coordinated pattern of violence designed to inflict severe physical and mental harm. The commission emphasized that the legal threshold for crimes against humanity has been met through the widespread and systematic nature of these attacks across the region.
Continued Genocide in Gaza
In addition to its assessment of the West Bank, the commission concluded that Israel continues to commit acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip. The report highlights that the deliberate targeting of Palestinian children constitutes a primary element in proving the intent to destroy the Palestinian group, either wholly or partially. According to the investigators, this specific focus on minors serves as critical evidence of genocidal intent by Israeli security forces.
Srinivasan Muraleedhar, the chairperson of the commission, stated that the evidence demonstrates that Palestinian children were intentionally targeted and killed by Israeli security forces. He noted that even after the ceasefire agreement in October 2025, children continue to be killed and suffer serious injuries. The commission criticized Israel for persistently ignoring the ceasefire terms and failing to provide the protection guaranteed to children under international law.
The investigation underscores that the deliberate killing of children is not merely a consequence of conflict but a strategic component of the broader campaign. The panel asserts that these actions violate fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and constitute war crimes in both the West Bank and Gaza. The report calls for accountability, noting that the systematic nature of these violations requires immediate international intervention to halt the ongoing destruction and ensure justice for the victims.
