US Embassy in Riyadh Warns of Potential Iranian and Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

24 October، 2026

The United States Embassy in Riyadh issued a renewed warning on Saturday, urging American citizens to reconsider their travel plans to Saudi Arabia. The advisory highlights the heightened risk of US interests within the Kingdom being targeted by missiles and drones launched from Iran and the Houthi movement, which is backed by Tehran.

This update follows a travel alert released by the US Department of State on Friday. The timing coincides with statements made by President Donald Trump, who hinted at the possibility of launching a new military operation against Iran during an election rally in Florida. While the President did not specify the scope or timing of such an operation, his remarks have contributed to regional tensions.

According to the embassy, the latest update reflects an increasing probability of armed attacks by the Houthis and ongoing efforts by Iran to target US government officials in the region. The modification applied only to the summary section of the travel warning, leaving the overall risk level and specific indicators unchanged.

The travel advisory remains at Level 3, which advises travelers to “reconsider travel.” This designation does not constitute a general ban on travel nor an order for evacuation. Instead, it calls on US citizens to reassess the necessity of traveling given the current security environment. The embassy reiterated its recommendation against traveling to the border region between Saudi Arabia and Yemen due to the persistent threat of terrorism.

The updated warning lists several factors contributing to the need for caution, including active armed conflict, terrorism, restrictions on leaving the country, and local laws concerning social media activities. These elements are cited as reasons for Americans to carefully evaluate their presence in the Kingdom.

Concerns about renewed military escalation in the area have intensified following recent developments. Since the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Iran on February 28, 2026, Saudi Arabia has been subjected to missile and drone strikes. The Houthi movement, supported by Iran, has previously threatened to launch new attacks against the Kingdom, according to the US State Department.

This is not the first time Washington has adjusted its travel guidance for Saudi Arabia. On October 12 of this year, the US updated its advisory without changing the risk level, adding specific guidelines regarding aviation safety and mobility. That previous update also warned against photographing sites where missiles and drones had landed or were intercepted.
