Saudi Coalition Destroys 5 Houthi Drones Toward Eastern Province

21 October، 2026

The Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced on Wednesday morning that it had destroyed five drones launched by the Houthi group, officially known as Ansar Allah, toward Saudi territory. Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the coalition forces, confirmed the interception and destruction of a drone aimed at the Eastern Province via the X platform.

Earlier on the same day, the coalition reported intercepting and destroying four additional drones directed at the Kingdom. These attacks targeted the Medina region and the Eastern Province. The announcements highlight a sustained pattern of aerial incursions into Saudi airspace attributed to the Houthi movement.

This incident follows a series of escalations between the two parties. On Tuesday evening, the coalition had previously announced the destruction of a launch platform used by the Houthis to fire a ballistic missile toward the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The military operations are part of a broader conflict that has seen intensified hostilities since July 2026, coinciding with ongoing battles between the Houthi group and government forces within Yemen.

Data from Saudi authorities and statements from the Houthis indicate that during October, Houthi attacks were concentrated on major infrastructure, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, as well as airports in Abha, Jazan, Najran, and Dammam. Oil facilities and military sites have also been targeted in these waves of aggression.

The Saudi coalition has been leading a military alliance since March 2015 to support the legitimate government in Yemen against the Houthi group. The Houthis, accused of receiving Iranian support, have controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since September 2014. The current wave of drone and missile attacks underscores the persistent security challenges facing the Kingdom’s southern borders and internal infrastructure amid the protracted civil war in Yemen.
