Family Sources Confirm Death of Palestinian Prisoner Motaz Abu Snineh in Israeli Detention

17 September، 2026

Family sources confirmed on Wednesday the death of Motaz Atrash Abu Snineh, a prisoner from the city of Hebron in the southern West Bank, while held within Israeli occupation facilities. The announcement follows approximately one year of his administrative detention.

According to these family sources, Abu Snineh had been held under administrative detention for nearly twelve months. At the time of the report, no specific details were available regarding the circumstances surrounding his death or his exact location within the prison system. No official statement has yet been issued by authorities to clarify the particulars of his passing.

This incident occurs amidst a documented rise in fatalities among Palestinian prisoners and detainees within Israeli jails since the onset of the war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. Various testimonies, reports, and statements from Palestinian entities have highlighted deteriorating conditions in detention centers, citing issues such as torture, starvation, and the denial of adequate medical care.

Data provided by the Prisoners and Ex-Political Prisoners Affairs Commission indicates that the number of identified martyrs among the prisoner movement stands at approximately 91 since the beginning of the Gaza war, up to August 9, 2026. Of this total, 53 individuals are identified as being from the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, the Commission recorded that the cumulative number of martyrs whose identities have been verified since 1967 reaches 328.

The Commission emphasized that these figures do not encompass all suspected cases occurring within the prisons. This exclusion is due to the ongoing lack of transparency regarding the fate of numerous detainees from Gaza, many of whom remain unaccounted for or whose status has not been officially disclosed.
